# Anderson Area Touchdown Club Launches 46th Football Season

The Anderson Area Touchdown Club officially began its 46th season on Friday, August 22, with an event at the Anderson Institute of Technology. The kickoff featured head coaches from Anderson County high school football teams, who provided overviews of their respective teams and discussed expectations for the upcoming season.

The club was established to recognize the achievements of all eight high schools in Anderson County, celebrating the players and coaches who contribute to the sport’s local importance. Throughout the football season, the club honors a player and a coach of the week.

A club representative stated that their purpose is to celebrate players and coaches, focusing on high school football’s significance to the community and the relationships it fosters. Weekly meetings will include honors, game previews, and a speaker series featuring athletes, coaches, and sports figures from college and professional levels.

Scheduled guests include Saudia Roundtree, a former national college basketball player of the year, and Landon Powell, a former University of South Carolina and Oakland Athletics catcher who now coaches baseball at North Greenville. David Pollack, a former football commentator, is also expected to speak. Other anticipated appearances include Danny Ford, former Clemson head football coach; Kevin Butler, former Georgia Bulldogs and Chicago Bears kicker; Derek Moore, the University of South Carolina’s director of player development; and Anderson University Head Football Coach Bobby Lamb.

Membership in the club is open to individuals and businesses, with corporate memberships and sponsorships available for those seeking a more formal role in supporting the program. Information regarding membership, speakers, meetings, and weekly recognitions is shared through the Anderson Area Touchdown Club’s Facebook page. Lunch is provided at each Friday meeting by Sundays, located across the street from the Institute of Technology.
