A man was taken into custody by North Charleston police after barricading himself inside a home in the Dorchester Waylyn community on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The incident, which involved gunfire, concluded without further reported issues.

Officers initially responded to Louise Drive and Rex Avenue around 6:30 p.m. following reports of an individual acting hostile toward a complainant and others. Upon arrival, officers recognized the residence from a previous incident on August 24, where the suspect allegedly cut off water and electricity to the apartment and locked the complainant out.

During Tuesday’s encounter, officers attempted to communicate with the suspect, who reportedly yelled through a front window and exposed himself. Police provided security for the complainant as she removed personal belongings from the residence. The suspect reportedly exited the home to perform yard work before re-entering, and made unusual statements to officers, including asking about a passing clown.

An officer remained positioned near the front of the residence due to the suspect repeatedly going in and out. At one point, the officer heard the front door open, and as the officer turned, the suspect allegedly pointed a firearm out the door and fired one shot in the officer’s direction. Following the shot, multiple officers drew their firearms, and the suspect retreated back inside.

A perimeter was established around the residence, and SWAT units and negotiators were called to the scene. The suspect was later apprehended without additional incident.
