Aiken residents interested in the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence will note that TIME has released its fourth annual TIME100 AI list on August 27, 2026. This list recognizes the 100 most influential individuals in the field of artificial intelligence, highlighting leaders, innovators, shapers, and thinkers who are contributing to the future of AI.

The 2026 TIME100 AI issue features a worldwide cover showcasing several prominent figures, including Sam Altman, Dario Amodei, Jeff Bezos, Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Marian Croak, Larry Ellison, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Paris Hilton, Lila Ibrahim, Arvind Krishna, Fei-Fei Li, Mira Murati, Elon Musk, David Sacks, Liz Shuler, Ilya Sutskever, and Eddie Wu. The publication also includes in-depth interviews with Mira Murati, CEO of Thinking Machines Lab; Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union; and Daniel Nadler, founder and CEO of OpenEvidence.

TIME’s editors and reporters conducted months of research to compile the list, gathering recommendations from industry leaders and numerous expert sources. Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs noted that the TIME100 AI was initiated three years prior to identify influential AI leaders. Since its inception, AI technology has transitioned from a niche interest to a constant presence in daily work and life, becoming a primary method for seeking knowledge.

Jacobs further stated that the activity in AI has been both explosive and divisive, marked by significant promises and concerns. The individuals on the 2026 TIME100 AI list reflect this tumultuous state. Over the past year, executives such as xAI’s Elon Musk have guided leading AI firms to public markets. Figures like Anthropic’s Dario Amodei have engaged with the Pentagon regarding the use of AI tools in warfare. Founders like Oracle’s Larry Ellison have prioritized building the data centers deemed essential for AI to reach its full potential. Researchers, including Moonshot AI’s Yang Zhilin, have developed models that have garnered considerable attention and, at times, surpassed advanced US competitors. Simultaneously, a growing coalition of politicians and advocates, including Senator Bernie Sanders, labor leader Liz Shuler, and actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, are raising awareness about the potential implications of these changes.

To further recognize these contributions, TIME will host the TIME100 Impact Dinner: Leaders Shaping the Future of AI on September 14th in San Francisco. This event will spotlight leaders, innovators, and visionaries, including those featured on the 2026 TIME100 AI list. The dinner will feature discussions exploring AI’s impact across various industries and society, with participants such as actor, filmmaker, and entrepreneur Joseph Gordon-Levitt; International Telecommunication Union Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin; Deloitte Consulting LLP Chair and CEO Jason Salzetti; Booking Holdings CEO and President Glenn Fogel; and Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S.

The 2026 TIME100 AI is presented by premier sponsor Deloitte, with Booking.com and Cognizant serving as signature partners.
