BLUFFTON, S.C. — May River Road through Bluffton was blocked Wednesday morning after a fallen tree took down utility lines near Haigler Boulevard. Beaufort County deputies confirmed the outage.

Deputies sealed the segment linking Buck Island Road with Buckwalter Parkway, saying the work could run for hours as debris was cleared and lines restored. Dominion Energy crews handled the repair work at the scene.

Detours pushed cars onto Buckwalter Parkway or Buck Island Road. Officials urged caution and warned of slowdowns around the detour.

No reopen clock had been announced with the first closure notice. The blockage sits on a busy southern Beaufort County link through the Bluffton growth corridor along SC-170.

Sheriff P.J. Tanner heads county law enforcement. Bluffton (Beaufort County, pop. ~31,000 — 30 miles east via SC-170, fast-growing) anchors the southern county retail corridor.
