BALTIMORE, Md. — South Carolina State gets a quick turnaround and a national television window this week. The ranked Bulldogs, two-time defending MEAC champions, play at Morgan State on Thursday, Oct. 29, with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Hughes Stadium in Baltimore.

Coach Chennis Berry’s team is 6-2 and 1-0 in league play after snapping a two-game skid Saturday with a 22-7 homecoming win over Norfolk State at Dawson Stadium. The defense led the way, forcing three turnovers, including two interceptions, after rough outings against The Citadel and Charleston Southern.

Sophomore running back Mason Pickett-Hicks scored on a 21-yard run and a second touchdown run in that game, and kicker Jett Jackson added three field goals as the Bulldogs built a 19-0 halftime lead. Pickett-Hicks leads the MEAC with 793 rushing yards and is averaging 7.3 yards a carry, second best in the country.

South Carolina State tops the conference in scoring at 40.9 points per game and allows only 17.6, also the best in the league. Defensive lineman Ka’Von Chisolm leads the MEAC with seven sacks.

Morgan State is 5-3 and 0-1 in the MEAC after dropping a 26-20 overtime game to Howard. Berry knows the opponent well, having served as an offensive coordinator at Morgan State from 2006 to 2008.

The series has favored the Bulldogs, who own a 36-8-1 record against the Bears since 1971 and have won 15 of the past 18 meetings. Last year South Carolina State held on for a 36-30 win in Orangeburg. The Bulldogs sit 25th in this week’s Stats Perform FCS rankings and were the preseason pick to win the MEAC again.
