# Fatal Head-On Crash on Lady’s Island Drive Kills One

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. — A motorist died Friday after two pickup trucks collided head-on along U.S. Highway 21 near Kemmerlin Lane in Beaufort County, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

Mitchell Ridgeway, a master trooper assigned to the case, placed the time at 3:20 p.m. A 2000 GMC pickup was traveling northbound when a 2007 Toyota pickup coming the opposite direction veered over the painted center line and hit that truck head-on.

Rescue crews took both drivers for hospital care. The person behind the wheel of the GMC later died of those injuries, and doctors at a nearby hospital pronounced that driver dead.

The Toyota driver also received hospital treatment. Troopers further identified the stretch of road as Lady’s Island Drive.

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office has not named the motorist who died. The Highway Patrol said its review of the wreck is still underway.
