Beaufort County, South Carolina – Multiple Fatal Collisions Leave Five Dead
Multiple traffic collisions in South Carolina over the weekend and into Monday have resulted in five fatalities and several other injuries, prompting investigations by local authorities.
The most recent incident occurred in Beaufort County on Monday at around 12:30 p.m., involving a six-car collision at the intersection of US Highway 278 and White Oak Circle. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating this collision, which resulted in one death. The vehicles involved included a Ford pickup, a Lexus sedan, a Toyota pickup traveling west, along with a Nissan sedan, a Chevrolet pickup, and a Toyota van traveling east. The chain reaction began when the Ford pickup struck the Lexus sedan and Toyota pickup; this impact caused the Lexus to veer into oncoming traffic, leading to collisions with the Nissan and Chevrolet pickups. The subsequent impact resulted in the Toyota van striking both the Ford pickup and the Chevrolet pickup.
At the moment, the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the deceased from this incident.
Earlier, a different crash on Saturday at approximately 5:40 p.m. took place at the intersection of SC-41 and Davis Road, located north of Hemingway, which left one person dead and another injured. This collision involved a 2002 Chevy pickup and a 2019 Toyota sedan. Reports indicate that the Chevy pickup was traveling north while the Toyota sedan attempted to cross the intersection, resulting in a collision. The driver of the Chevy pickup was transported to McLeod Hospital but was later pronounced dead; the Toyota sedan’s driver sustained injuries and was taken to MUSC Black River Hospital. The Williamsburg County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the deceased from this incident either.
The most devastating collision occurred late Saturday night on Sea Island Parkway at approximately 10:30 p.m., resulting in five fatalities. This crash involved a 2009 BMW sedan that attempted to overtake a 2004 Toyota Tundra and collided head-on with a 2009 Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda Accord died at the scene. Following the impact, the BMW overturned and caught fire, claiming the lives of the driver and three passengers. The driver of the Toyota Tundra sustained no injuries.
The deceased in the Sea Island Parkway incident have been identified as Raymone Dagin, aged 26; Mary Seabrook, aged 46; Henry Watson, aged 31; Tiera Seabrook, aged 31; and Jaycean Perry, aged 4.
Ongoing investigations are being conducted by local authorities into each of the incidents. Traffic disruptions were reported in the affected areas, leading officials to advise drivers to reduce speed and allow first responders to safely manage the scenes of these tragic collisions.
The recent increase in fatal road accidents highlights the need for drivers to remain vigilant and drive safely, especially in challenging weather conditions or high-traffic areas.
