Beaufort, SC – An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting incident that injured two individuals at the Garden Oaks Apartments on May 28th. Gasnel O’Bryan Miller, a 35-year-old male, was taken into custody on Saturday, May 31st, and now faces multiple charges related to the shooting.

Miller has been charged with several offenses including firing a weapon into a vehicle, aggravated breach of peace, pointing and presenting a weapon at a person, firing a weapon within city limits, and possession of drugs with intent to distribute. He is currently being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center with a bond set at $55,000.

The Beaufort Police Department is actively investigating the shooting and is seeking assistance from the public. Individuals with any information related to this case are encouraged to contact Investigator Martin at 843-322-7940 or reach the non-emergency dispatch at 843-524-2777. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers of Beaufort County via the P3 Tips App, online at www.TIPSBFT.com, or by calling 1-844-847-7238.

This incident is part of an alarming series of violent crimes that have occurred at the Garden Oaks Apartments in recent months. Previous incidents include a shooting that resulted in a teenager being hospitalized, along with other shootings that have caused fatalities. In response to the surge in violence, city officials and the police department are taking steps to enhance safety in the area.

To bolster law enforcement presence, the city has collaborated with property managers and established a law enforcement substation in one of the apartments to improve visibility and response capability. In addition, police will be increasing patrols and conducting more traffic stops in the surrounding area to deter criminal activity.

Property management at the Garden Oaks Apartments has also begun eviction proceedings against nine residents, including Miller, in an effort to reduce crime and restore safety in the complex. City officials have noted that many of the recent violent incidents appear to be linked to visitors or trespassers, rather than current residents of the apartments.

City Manager Scott Marshall has underscored the importance of deterring violent crime in order to protect community quality of life. As part of ongoing efforts to address safety concerns, a community meeting has been scheduled for residents of the Garden Oaks Apartments. The meeting aims to engage residents on safety issues and foster discussions on potential solutions.

Furthermore, the Beaufort City Council plans to discuss the introduction of a potential nuisance abatement ordinance during their meeting on June 10th. This proposed ordinance will focus on defining and addressing public nuisances, linking back to the city’s aim to enhance safety and well-being in the community.

The situation at Garden Oaks Apartments reflects a growing concern for safety in the vicinity, prompting both law enforcement action and community involvement to ensure residents feel secure in their homes. As the investigation continues and responses develop, efforts aimed at combating violence in this area are being prioritized to restore peace and safety for all residents.
