City of Beaufort, South Carolina

The city government of Beaufort, South Carolina is a council-manager form of government. The city council is composed of five members, including the mayor, who are all elected at-large by voters within the city limits. The city council sets policy and governs through their single employee, the city manager. The city manager is responsible for day-to-day operations, as well as carrying out policy decisions made by the city council.

The city council meets regularly on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 PM in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. The meetings are open to the public and citizens are encouraged to attend. The city council also holds special meetings as needed.

The city manager is appointed by the city council and serves at their pleasure. The city manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the city government, including overseeing the city’s departments and staff. The city manager also prepares the city’s budget and presents it to the city council for approval.

The city government of Beaufort is responsible for providing a variety of services to its citizens, including police and fire protection, public works, parks and recreation, and planning and zoning.

The city government also works to promote economic development and tourism in the city. The city government of Beaufort is committed to providing its citizens with a high quality of life. The city council and city manager work together to ensure that the city is a safe and vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family.
