Virginia Beach, VA – Vincente Joseph Herrera, a 46-year-old resident of Virginia Beach, passed away unexpectedly on May 23, 2025, during the Memorial Day weekend. His sudden death has left family and friends in shock as they remember his service and dedication both as a Marine and a family man.
Herrera was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Joseph, and is survived by his wife of 22 years, Anna (Bueltel) Herrera, as well as his parents, Eugene and Ernestine (Milani) Herrera. He also leaves behind his sister, Shannon (Herrera) Blackmer, her husband Brent, and his brother Chris Herrera, along with his wife Melissa (Hodges) Herrera. His family includes his niece, Sasha Blackmer, and four nephews: Nico Blackmer, Gabriel Herrera, Elijah Herrera, and Bradley Herrera.
Born on November 15, 1978, in Beaufort, SC, Vince grew up in a military family, moving frequently during his early years. His childhood experiences included living in various locations across the United States and overseas, including Quantico, VA; Cherry Point, NC; Portland, OR; Okinawa, Japan; Camp Pendleton, CA; Monterey, CA; and Port Hueneme, CA. This lifestyle instilled in him a profound sense of discipline and resilience.
Herrera graduated from Santa Clara High School in Oxnard, CA, where he distinguished himself in sports, playing football, basketball, and baseball. Following his high school years, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2001. Over his eight years of service, he excelled in the supply occupational field before transitioning to an air traffic controller role for four years, ultimately attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Upon completing his military service, Vince successfully transitioned into a civilian career in air traffic control. His professional journey took him to various cities, including Indianapolis, West Palm Beach, and Norfolk, where he continued to apply his skills and training gained in the Marine Corps.
Vince was known as a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and Giants, reflecting his strong ties to sports and community engagement. He shared a lifelong bond with his wife, whom he affectionately referred to as his “Lady in Red,” a testament to their enduring love and partnership. His family described their relationship as filled with “Crazy Love,” showcasing the deep affection they held for each other.
Visitation for Vincente Joseph Herrera will be held on June 24, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at RW Baker and Company, located at 509 W Washington St, Suffolk, VA. Following the visitation, a graveside funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM at A.G. Horton, Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery, located at 5310 Milner Rd, Suffolk, VA. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity Hope For Life to honor Vince’s memory and support a cause that he cherished.
