Beaufort, South Carolina hosted a significant video conference on July 16, fostering connections between local Rotary clubs and officials from Ostroh, Ukraine. This joint meeting featured participation from Beaufort Mayor Pro Tem Mike McFee and City Manager Scott Marshall, emphasizing the city’s commitment to supporting Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.

The conference was organized by Beaufort’s three Rotary clubs: the Rotary Club of Beaufort, Sea Island Rotary Club, and Lowcountry Rotary Club. This initiative was born out of a community effort in 2022, where residents raised over $130,000 to provide humanitarian aid to Ostroh, a city chosen as a sister city for its similarities to Beaufort, including its size and the presence of a local university.

They reported losing over 100 defenders in the ongoing war, with more than 100 individuals still missing. Furthermore, the Ukrainian delegation revealed that Ostroh has received over 2,000 displaced individuals from other regions of Ukraine, intensifying the urgency to address their immediate needs.
