Born on September 4, 1927, in Islandton, South Carolina, Yvonne was the daughter of Daniel Edwin Crosby and Verna Ulmer Crosby. She grew up on a farm alongside her two older brothers, Daniel Edwin Crosby Jr. and Eugene Hugh Crosby. Throughout her life, Yvonne dedicated herself to her family and community, becoming a beloved figure in Walterboro.

Prior to her retirement, Yvonne worked as a seamstress, a profession that showcased her creativity and craftsmanship. She was a devoted member of the First Christian Church in Walterboro, where she contributed to the spiritual life of her community and found a supportive network among fellow congregation members.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Clyde Bird Jr., a US Navy retiree. Together, they shared a life filled with love and commitment. She is survived by her children: Thomas D. and Francis H. Carter, Julie S. and Dennis Somers, Patricia B. and Robert Durham, Daniel C. and Maryann S. Bird, and Harry J. and Rhonda S. Bird. Yvonne’s family also includes nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews who cherished her guidance and affection.

A graveside service honoring Yvonne’s life will take place at the Beaufort National Cemetery, located at 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, South Carolina, at 11 a.m. on August 5, 2025. The Reverend Jerry Thompson will officiate this memorial service, offering comfort and reflection for those in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, Yvonne’s family encourages donations to be made in her memory to Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch, Post Office Box 606, Shelbina, MO 63468. This gesture supports the care of children in need and reflects Yvonne’s lifelong commitment to helping others.
