Nita Hall was born in Bulloch County, GA, as the last of six children to William Hugh Turner and Rosa Hayes Turner. She graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1947 after her family relocated to Waynesboro, GA. Nita began her professional career in 1954, working for four years in the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, where she earned the title of deputy. Her service was notable, leading her to be affectionately nicknamed the “prettiest sheriff in Georgia” by state troopers during her time in law enforcement.

In 1958, Nita met Leon Hall, and they married on May 2, 1959, after nearly a year of courtship. The couple lived in various locations including New Orleans, LA, Beaufort, SC, and Atlanta, GA, before finally settling in Statesboro, GA. In her later years, she continued to thrive in the community while residing at Southern Manor Assisted Living, where she was embraced by staff and fellow residents alike.

Nita’s interests were many and varied. She enjoyed crocheting, camping, traveling, gardening, fashion, and collecting treasures. Her faith also played a significant role in her life as she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Statesboro. Nita participated in the Alathean Sunday School class and sang with the Senior Adult Choir, demonstrating her commitment to her church community.

Her adventurous spirit led her on numerous mission trips and tours both within the United States and internationally. Notably, Nita traveled to Novosibirsk, Russia, at the age of 76 and took a tour to the Holy Land in Israel two years later, allowing her to connect with various cultures and communities around the world.

Nita Hall was preceded in death by her husband Leon Hall, two sisters (Nell Banks and Jean Daniel), and three brothers (Cecil Turner, William Troy Turner, and William Roger Turner). She is survived by her son Steven Hall and daughter-in-law Lesa Hall, along with several nieces and nephews.

In honor of Nita’s life, the family will receive visitors on September 29, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Pastor John Waters. Interment will take place at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro, GA.
