The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Bluffton Parkway, approximately 1.5 miles east of Bluffton, SC. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Authorities report that a 2014 Jeep Compass was unoccupied and disabled in the eastbound lane when its trailer detached. A 2016 Toyota RAV4, traveling east, subsequently struck the loose trailer. As a result of the collision, the trailer then struck two pedestrians who were standing outside of the Jeep Compass. Tragically, one pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while both the driver of the Toyota RAV4 and one of the pedestrians were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the pedestrian who lost their life. The ongoing investigation aims to shed light on the exact cause of the accident and whether other factors contributed to the tragic events.
