Beaufort County, S.C. – Authorities are investigating the discovery of human remains found on St. Helena Island behind a vacant home on Sea Island Parkway. The remains were uncovered on Sunday afternoon when a passerby alerted deputies around 5 p.m. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is now working to identify the remains and has not disclosed the gender or age. Investigators are also attempting to determine how long the remains have been at the location and the circumstances surrounding their placement.

In the wake of this discovery, the sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone with information to reach out. People can contact Beaufort County dispatchers at 843-524-2777 or provide tips anonymously through the P3 Tips app or by calling Crime Stoppers of Beaufort County at 844-TIPS-BFT.

This incident is not isolated, as a separate case involving human remains has recently come to light. Just ten days prior, the remains of Stanley Kotowski were found beneath a home in the Sea Pines area of Hilton Head Island. He had been reported missing on August 16 after being seen near South Sea Pines Drive around 10:30 a.m. without his personal belongings. Authorities discovered Kotowski’s remains after responding to reports of suspicious activity at a home in the Sea Pines neighborhood. Family members confirmed his identity, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the manner of death.

Compounding these investigations, another case involving human remains emerged recently in the Burton community of Beaufort County. A burned vehicle containing human remains was located around 4:20 p.m. near the intersection of Ramblin and Ramsey Roads, approximately half a mile north of the Walmart in Beaufort. The car appears to have been left parked in the woods for several days, prompting authorities to conduct an autopsy to ascertain the cause and manner of death. The investigation into the burned vehicle is currently being classified as a “suspicious death,” though it is not being treated as a murder inquiry at this time.

Investigators are working diligently to determine the ownership of the burned vehicle by examining its vehicle identification number. In light of this recent discovery, authorities are asking the public for any information regarding the burned vehicle or related suspicious activity. Individuals can contact Sgt. J. Snider at 843-255-3421 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111 to share pertinent information.

While it is unclear if these cases are connected, the recent discoveries of human remains in Beaufort County have raised concerns within the community. Each investigation is proceeding independently, with law enforcement taking steps to ensure that thorough inquiries are conducted. Families and friends of missing individuals may be particularly impacted as they await answers regarding these unsettling developments.

The sheriff’s office continues to urge residents to remain vigilant and report any information that may assist in these investigations. As the inquiries develop, updates are expected to be released, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the findings and the identities of the individuals involved.

The Beaufort County community is facing a challenging period, and local authorities are committed to uncovering the truth in these incidents while providing support to the affected families.
