Defiance, MO – Jacqueline “Jacquie” Isome Nadler, a cherished figure in the Defiance community and an admired business owner, has passed away at the age of 77. Her death marks the loss of a beloved companion to many and a significant contributor to local life.

Jacquie was born on March 2, 1948, in Decatur, Illinois, to Charles W. and Lois Barrett Isome. Raised in Assumption, Illinois, she graduated from Assumption High School in 1966 before pursuing higher education at the University of Illinois, where she earned a degree in fashion merchandising in 1970. Following her graduation, Jacquie moved to St. Louis, where she began her career managing a boutique and later worked as a fashion consultant for the reputable department store Famous Barr.

Her professional journey took her further into the consulting world when she served Alexander Proudfoot and transitioned to the finance sector, becoming a mortgage manager for Citicorp. Despite her relocation to the area and the shift in her career, Jacquie’s heart remained true to her entrepreneurial spirit.

On December 31, 1987, she married David A. W. Nadler in St. Charles, Missouri. The couple established their roots in Defiance in 1993, where they built and operated the well-loved bed and breakfast, Das Gast Haus Nadler, located adjacent to the popular Katy Trail. Their hospitality also extended to owning a bar and restaurant called The Squirrel Bar, which became a gathering place for locals and visitors alike.

Tragedy struck the couple when David Nadler passed away in February 2005. Following this loss, Jacquie continued to run their businesses and remained part of the Defiance community until March 2025, when she moved to Hershey, Pennsylvania, to be closer to her family. She is survived by her brother Richard Isome and his wife Wendy of Beaufort, South Carolina, and her sister Barbara Allen and her husband Clarence from Hershey, Pennsylvania. Jacquie also leaves behind nieces Stephanie Allen and Rebecca Wallace, a grand-nephew, Max Wallace, and three step-children: Mike Nadler, Tony Nadler, and Yvonne Nadler Felker, along with numerous cousins.

The community of Defiance is set to honor Jacquie’s life and her numerous contributions. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Defiance, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. at the same location. Rev. Michael Pope will officiate the memorial service, celebrating her legacy and the impact she had on her community. Friends, family, and community members are invited to come together to pay their respects.

As a long-time member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Jacquie dedicated many years as the church treasurer, deeply embedding herself into the fabric of both her church and the broader community. Memorial donations in her honor can be made to St. Paul’s UCC or any charity of the donor’s choice, reflecting her commitment to giving back and making a difference.

Jacquie’s warmth, passion for community service, and entrepreneurial spirit have left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, making her departure a significant loss for her family and the Defiance community.
