Born on May 24, 1931, in Superior, Wisconsin, JoAnne was the daughter of Frank and Verna Mayersak. She graduated as the salutatorian from Superior Cathedral High School and continued her education at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Later, she transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned her degree in biology, chemistry, and education in 1953, showcasing her commitment to lifelong learning.

JoAnne met her future husband, Rockne, on a blind date at the University of Wisconsin. The couple married on January 3, 1953, and soon welcomed a family together. JoAnne initially worked as a science teacher at Edgewood High School in Madison for two years before choosing to devote her time to family life.

Known for her culinary skills, JoAnne had a particular passion for baking, delighting friends and family with her famous poppyseed, cottage cheese, and nut Kolache recipes. She was remembered fondly for her generosity in sharing delicious tins of cookies and hosting dinner parties to support Rockne’s business. The couple thrived amidst social gatherings, enjoying potlucks, ice cream parties, and bridge games with friends while residing in Beaufort, South Carolina.

JoAnne is survived by her four children: George (Paula) Flowers, Chris (Loida) Flowers, Veronica Flowers, and Roxanne (Allison) Flowers. She also leaves behind a beloved pet, Roscoe, along with 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Other surviving family members include her sister Rozelle Meyer, nephew Steven (Judy) Lukenbach, niece Kathryn Lukenbach, and cousins Jerry (Priscilla) Mayersak and Joe (Diane) Mayersak. She was preceded in death by her husband Rockne, her third child Rockne, and her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Madison at 12 noon on September 12, 2025. A visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the Mass’s start, with a Rosary to be recited at 11 a.m. Following the service, a private burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family expressed gratitude for JoAnne’s loving caregivers, including Jordan, Jill, Shelby, Lisa, Levi, and Southern Indiana Home Care, as well as former caregivers from Home Sweet Home Caregivers in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
