Port Royal is set to celebrate the third anniversary of Sea Sea’s Honey Hole Bait & Tackle with a special fish fry event on Saturday, August 9, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature plates priced at $20 for adults and $13 for children, along with live music entertainment by local musician Campfire Tyler. The fish fry is designed to honor the community’s support and mark the achievements of owner Isis Nunez and her business over the past three years.

Isis Nunez, a 36-year-old entrepreneur originally from Miami, founded Sea Sea’s Honey Hole Bait & Tackle in 2022. After serving five years in the U.S. Army as a military police officer, including a deployment to Afghanistan, Nunez relocated to Beaufort, South Carolina, in 2016 for a civilian job. It was during her time in Beaufort that she developed a deep passion for fishing, often practicing the sport on weekends.

Motivated by her love for fishing and the potential she saw in the Beaufort area, Nunez decided to open her own bait and tackle shop in a building that had previously been occupied by another such business. She aspired to create the best bait and tackle store locally and feels a sense of accomplishment in having done so. However, the journey has not been without obstacles.

Initially, Nunez encountered resistance from neighbors who opposed her application for a beer license, resulting in legal fees and delays that hindered her ability to sell beer at the start of her business. Additionally, she faced competition from a rival business and slower sales during winter months. The impact of Hurricane Helene also affected her venture, as it led to the closure of the Sands Boat Ramp and fishing pier, which further strained customer access and business operations.

Despite these challenges, Nunez utilized her culinary skills – learned from her grandmother – to add a unique dimension to her business. She installed a small kitchen in the bait shop and began offering food items alongside fishing supplies. Popular dishes include breakfast burritos and lunch tacos, which have attracted attention, with daily menus shared on Facebook. Nunez has gained further visibility through her appearances on the “Eat It & Like It” foodie show in Savannah, and her Cuban sandwich has been featured in local publications.

The community has become an integral part of Nunez’s experience, with many regular customers turning into friends over time. Her commitment to hard work and continuous improvement has played a crucial role in the growth of Sea Sea’s Honey Hole. Collaborations with local YouTubers have also contributed to increased visibility and attracted customers from different states, showing the expanding reach of her business.

The upcoming anniversary celebration is seen by Nunez as a chance to give back to the community that has supported her. With preparations underway for the fish fry, attendees can look forward to enjoying good food, live music, and a sense of community spirit that has come to define Sea Sea’s Honey Hole Bait & Tackle.

As the event date approaches, community members and fishing enthusiasts are encouraged to come together to celebrate not only the anniversary of a local business but also the relationships that Nunez has fostered within the community through her dedication to providing quality service and products.
