Surrounded by his beloved wife Regina Graham-Washington and stepsister, he left behind a legacy marked by service to his church, commitment to his family, and a passion for cooking.

Washington was born on September 8, 1945, in Beaufort County, South Carolina. He was the son of Leila Washington and William Seabrook and was also a stepson to Alethia Seabrook. Washington spent much of his early life in Beaufort, where he completed his education at Dale Elementary School and Robert Smalls Junior High School. At a young age, he joined the Second Celestial Baptist Church, remaining an active member until he relocated to New York City.

In New York, Washington became a valued member of Trinity United Methodist Church in the Bronx, where he served on several committees, including the Trustee Board and the Pastor Parish Committee. His leadership extended to being the President of the Usher Board for multiple years and taking on the crucial role of Head Cook for church events and the Helping Hand Soup Kitchen. Washington’s culinary talents were apparent in his signature dishes such as Hoppin’ John and sweet potato bread, which delighted many at church functions.

Washington had a successful career working for Metro-North Railroad in New York City, where he dedicated 23 years of service in the Track and Structures Department before retiring on July 28, 2006. Following his retirement, Washington returned to South Carolina and rejoined Second Celestial Baptist Church, where he took an active role in the Male and Senior choirs, continuing his commitment to faith and community.

In addition to his religious duties, Washington fostered a welcoming environment at his home, affectionately known as “The Ponderosa” located in Holly Hill, South Carolina. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends and created innumerable joyful memories through gatherings at his home. Washington was known to have a vibrant personality, with hobbies that included watching WWE wrestling, going on cruises, and taking road trips with his loved ones.

Throughout his life, Washington faced several personal losses, including the passing of his mother, father, stepmother, daughter, and siblings. Despite these challenges, he remained a pillar of strength and support for his family. In addition to his wife, Regina Graham-Washington, he is survived by his daughter Francine Washington, son Devante Washington, and several other family members who will carry on his legacy.

Washington’s devotion to service extended beyond his church home. He was involved with the Greater Target African Methodist Episcopal Church in Holly Hill, where he participated in the Lay Organization and the Men of Mission. His impact on his community and his church was profound, as he dedicated his time and skills to help those in need.
