Beaufort High Eagles Defeat Whale Branch Warriors 34-14

The Beaufort High School Eagles secured a 34-14 victory over the Whale Branch Warriors on Friday night on Lady’s Island. Quarterback Braydon Moyd-Smalls led the Eagles offense, throwing three touchdown passes, two of which were caught by Qualeek Isnar.

Beaufort established a 14-0 lead by halftime with Moyd-Smalls connecting with Keaudre Jenkins and Isnar for first-half touchdowns. K’mari Mizell extended the Eagles’ lead to 21-0 early in the third quarter with a 40-yard touchdown run. Whale Branch responded with a 52-yard touchdown run from freshman Jamon Hayward. However, Moyd-Smalls and Isnar quickly countered with a 66-yard touchdown pass, making the score 27-6. Freshman quarterback Jamar Bronner’s 44-yard touchdown run brought the Warriors closer, but Beaufort’s defense held strong in the fourth quarter. Tavion Lundy sealed the win for the Eagles with a 1-yard touchdown run.

Beaufort High, now with a 1-1 record, is scheduled to host Hanahan on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Whale Branch, with an 0-2 record, will travel to Blackville-Hilda.

In other local high school football action, Beaufort Academy lost to Patrick Henry 23-8 at Merritt Field. Luke Sobey scored two rushing touchdowns and Kai Sobey added another for Patrick Henry. Beaufort Academy’s Nic Shuford Jr. connected with Gunnar Andrews for a touchdown and a two-point conversion, marking the Eagles’ only points.
