Lowcountry Communities Announce September Events

Residents across the South Carolina Lowcountry can mark their calendars for a variety of community events this September, including a book signing at Lake Warren State Park and a beach cleanup in Bluffton. These events offer opportunities for engagement and community service throughout Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton counties.

On September 5, Pastor Crystal Lewis, a local author, will host a book signing for her work, Out of Fire: Birth, Woman and Marriage. The event is scheduled from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Lake Warren State Park, located at 1079 Lake Warren Road in Hampton. Admission to the park and the event is free. Pastor Lewis plans to discuss the inspiration behind her book and the message she aims to convey to readers.

Beaufort County will host a Beach Sweep/River Sweep on September 19. This cleanup effort will take place at Oyster Factory Park in Bluffton, running from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Supplies necessary for the cleanup will be provided to participants. This initiative helps maintain the natural beauty of the Lowcountry’s waterways and coastal areas, an important aspect of life in Beaufort, known for its historic preservation and proximity to the water.

In Jasper County, the Friends of Pratt Memorial Library have announced new hours for their Preschool Story Time. The next session is scheduled for September 10 at 10:30 a.m. This story time will feature tales about tortoises, accompanied by related crafts and refreshments, in anticipation of the Gopher Hill Festival in October. On the same day as the story time, the library will also host a free diaper giveaway. The Pratt Memorial Library in Ridgeland has updated its operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday from Noon to 7 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For those seeking food resources, a list of food pantries is available across the Lowcountry region. Community members interested in announcing public events can submit details via email to specific addresses for Bluffton/Beaufort County/Jasper County events, Hampton County/greater Lowcountry events, and for inclusion in Hampton County Announcements.
