BEAUFORT, S.C. — Construction is officially underway on a new Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic for the Beaufort, S.C., area after a ceremonial groundbreaking Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, in Port Royal.
The clinic will sit at 1844 Ribaut Road, near Parris Island and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. It is a VA community-based outpatient clinic that will offer primary care, mental health services, specialty care and other VA programs, so veterans can get treatment closer to home instead of making long drives.
Congress authorized $30.4 million for the facility. Rep. Nancy Mace, who serves on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, attended along with leaders from the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, local officials and Lowcountry veterans. The ceremony began at 10 a.m., and Mace gave closing remarks.
Mace said nearly 17,000 veterans live in Beaufort County and argued they have waited too long for better access to care. She described the project as a promise to local veterans and said the work will also bring construction and health care jobs to the region.
The clinic is expected to open to patients in 2028. It will serve veterans across the 1st Congressional District, which includes Beaufort County.
