BURTON, S.C. — Five people went to the hospital Monday after two vehicles collided in Burton on Laurel Bay Road near Stanley Farms Road, a wreck that shut the road for a time late in the afternoon.
Firefighters from the Burton Fire District, Beaufort County EMS crews and sheriff’s deputies were sent to the scene shortly before 4:30 p.m. The first calls suggested people could be pinned inside, and that others were on the ground outside the vehicles asking for help.
Crews found no one trapped once they arrived. Three ambulances were needed to carry the injured, and the fire district said two of the five may have serious injuries.
The wreck was the fourth collision Burton firefighters had worked since Friday. In one of the earlier crashes, on Friday morning, they had to cut free a person who was seriously hurt.
