BEAUFORT, S.C. — Beaufort County households with old or unneeded prescription pills can get rid of them safely Saturday morning, Oct. 24, at two drop-off points in Beaufort and Bluffton.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and Nexus Care of Beaufort County are running the collection from 10 a.m. to noon as part of the national prescription drug take-back program. In Beaufort, drop-offs go to the sheriff’s Law Enforcement Center at 2001 Duke Street. In Bluffton, the site is the county government center at 4819 Bluffton Parkway.
Only pills and capsules will be taken. Needles and other sharps are not accepted. Anyone who misses Saturday can use one of the county’s 13 year-round disposal sites, and Nexus Care offers at-home disposal help for liquids, patches and creams.
The program is national in scope. At the 30th National Take Back Day, 4,306 law enforcement agencies took part and collected 642,410 pounds of medication, and the all-time total has passed 21 million pounds.
