Beaufort Memorial has enhanced its urology services by adding Dr. Meredith Hernandez, a skilled urologist, to its team in Beaufort and Okatie. This expansion, announced recently, aims to provide greater access to specialized care for residents of the Lowcountry.
Dr. Hernandez joins Beaufort Memorial Urology Specialists, where she will offer comprehensive treatment for various conditions, including kidney and bladder stones, enlarged prostate, urinary disorders, and urological cancers. She also brings expertise in advanced robot-assisted surgical procedures, which are designed to improve precision during operations, shorten patient recovery times, and achieve optimal outcomes.
Her interest in medicine stems from a family history of physicians, including both of her grandfathers. Dr. Hernandez was particularly drawn to urology because it allows for a combination of patient relationships, personalized care, and innovative surgical treatments. During her training, she developed a specific focus on robot-assisted surgery for treating urological cancers and other complex conditions.
Before relocating to the Lowcountry, Dr. Hernandez earned her medical degree and completed her urology residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. There, she cultivated a patient-centered approach that emphasizes education, open communication, and supporting patients as they navigate challenging diagnoses and treatment decisions.
Dr. Hernandez expressed her goal to create an open environment built on trust and honest communication, ensuring patients feel comfortable, informed, and supported in their healthcare choices. At the practice, she will work alongside board-certified urologist Dr. Louis F. Plzak and board-certified physician assistants Kristin S. Callaghan, Matthew Baker, and Nancy Thomas. Appointments with Dr. Hernandez or other providers at the Beaufort or Okatie locations can be made by calling 843-524-7607.
