BEAUFORT, S.C. — Beaufort County is steering residents with old electronics toward appointment-only e-waste drop sites in Beaufort and Bluffton rather than leaving gadgets at regular trash stops.
County solid-waste staff say recycling computers, monitors, TVs, printers and smaller devices keeps toxins out of the environment and gives parts a second life. Appointments are required at the two accepted e-waste locations.
The schedule-it-yourself pilot sits alongside the county’s quarterly e-waste events. Accepted lists cover personal computers, laptops, CRT and LCD monitors, CRT and flat TVs, printers, hard drives, phones, tablets and related gear, plus microwaves, vacuums and stereo equipment.
Large appliances such as ovens and refrigerators should go to convenience centers, not the e-waste appointments. Residents with questions can call Solid Waste and Recycling at 843-255-2736.
