HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Alan Perry will serve a second term as mayor of Hilton Head Island after winning a three-way race outright on Tuesday.
Final unofficial returns gave Perry 10,060 votes, a 54.49% share. Dave Ferguson, a retired corporate executive from Shipyard, came in second at 6,424, or 34.79%, while Palmer Simmons, who has spent his life in Spanish Wells, took 1,889, or 10.23%.
Town election rules require a winner to take a majority, 50% plus one vote, or the top two finishers head to a runoff. Perry cleared that bar, so no second round is needed.
The campaign turned on growth, traffic, stormwater, housing, law enforcement and the town contract with its chamber of commerce, and Ferguson pressed the mayor over conflict of interest questions. Perry, a 61-year-old mortgage banker who lives in Hilton Head Plantation, lost his first bid for the office in 2018 and won it in a 2022 runoff.
