BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. — Novant Health employees in Beaufort County were among staff who found their pay missing Friday morning, Nov. 6, after a problem with the health system’s new payroll setup held up direct deposits.
Novant moved its payroll distribution to ADP in October. Earlier pay cycles went through without trouble, the health system said, but a technology issue this week pushed back the time deposits reached banks. By midday the system said payroll had been completed and the money sent out, and by afternoon some workers were starting to see it land.
In a letter to employees, ADP blamed a file processing delay it said had been fixed and told workers they would still be paid that day, with exact timing up to each bank.
Novant apologized and said it will repay overdraft, late or returned-payment fees workers ran up because of the late deposits. It said it is contacting employees directly about how to ask for that money and is working to keep the problem from happening again.
