BEAUFORT, S.C. — Early voting centers in Beaufort County are closed Sunday and reopen Monday, giving voters six more days to cast a ballot before the Nov. 3 general election.
The four centers open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, until Oct. 31. They are the main voter registration office at 15 John Galt Road in Beaufort, the Bluffton Branch Library, Room 115 at the USCB Hilton Head campus and the St. Helena Branch Library. Neighborhood precincts do not open until Election Day, and no excuse is needed to vote early, though a photo ID is required.
With scattered complaints nationally about touchscreens flipping votes, the S.C. Election Commission says reports in the state this year are not unusual and most trace to user error. Voters mark choices on a ballot-marking device, which shows a review page with a checkmark beside each pick and flags any race left blank.
Nothing prints until the voter taps the print button. Look over the paper ballot before feeding it into the scanner, because a scanned ballot cannot be changed. If something is wrong, a poll manager can issue a fresh blank ballot.
Sample ballots for each part of the county are on the election commission website.
