BEAUFORT, S.C. — Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office are now investigating county government personnel, the agency said Monday, after County Administrator Michael Moore asked for the inquiry.
The sheriff’s office put out a short statement after reporters from several organizations asked whether deputies were looking into matters tied to the county administration. It did not say which employees are involved or what conduct is under review.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Daniel Allen said nothing more can be released for now, so the scope of the inquiry and any possible next steps remain unknown.
The confirmation lands roughly a week after the county made public the findings of a separate review. That review examined how officials reached their conclusions about the county’s former chief financial officer, who resigned under pressure about five months ago.
County administrators answer to Beaufort County Council, which oversees county operations. HERE Beaufort will update this story as officials release more information.
